I take guitar lessons at a local guitar shop that has lots of very nice pieces, Taylors, Breedlove ..etc. I noticed the Santa Cruz models in stock have this very attractive red "Tortoise Shell" type binding. Looks plastic but would look nice on a gift guitar I am planning. 1) Can someone tell me where I can buy this? or 2) Is there a Red figured wood that STAYS red in color as time goes by? Thanks for listening. |

Stew-Mac has some nice plastic Tortoise binding...I have used it several times...as far as a red wood...can't help with that, but I'm sure someone here will chime in shortly! ![]() |

Most luthierie supply houses carry tortoise shell and the good stuff is a celluloid and must be shipped by ground so be aware of 5-10 days delivery. That said I love wood bindings and Snakewood give a similar affect in wood, but obviously it is not translucent. Just another possible option. |
